Smart City Ratings 2026: iData Joins PlanMalaysia to Empower Local Authorities
Driving Precision: iData Joins PlanMalaysia for the 2026 Smart City Teach-In
The journey toward a smarter Malaysia reached a significant milestone recently at I-KPKT in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. From 10 to 12 February 2026, PlanMalaysia organized the Teach-In & Hands-On Session for Malaysia Smart City and Smart Township Ratings 2026. This intensive program brought together representatives from over 100 Local Authorities (PBT) across the nation. Every participant focused on a single goal: elevating the standard of urban living through smarter, data-driven governance.
iData was honored to be invited by PlanMalaysia to participate in this session alongside the Smart City Forum. For us, this was a vital opportunity to help shape the technical foundation upon which our future cities will be built.
The Power of Actionable Data
A smart city rating is more than just a certificate. It is a reflection of how well a city uses its resources to serve its people. During the hands-on sessions, the core message was clear. A high rating begins with data that is clear, organized, and actionable. Without clean data, even the most advanced AI cannot provide the insights needed for urban planning.
We have seen how this precision changes operations on the ground. In our previous projects involving urban asset tracking, moving from manual entry to automated real-time systems helped reduce operational overhead. This is the same level of efficiency we aim to bring to Malaysia’s local councils. By providing the tools to capture accurate field data, we ensure that local authorities are not just collecting information but using it to make cities more sustainable and competitive.
Leading the National Blueprint
This initiative is a critical part of the Malaysia Smart City Framework (MSCF). By training over 100 local authorities in the latest rating standards, PlanMalaysia is ensuring that every corner of the country moves in the same digital direction. Whether it is a busy hub in Johor or a growing township in Pahang, the standard for "Smart" must be consistent.
Key focus areas of the Teach-In included:
Digital Governance: Moving municipal processes online to provide faster services for the Rakyat.
Infrastructure Readiness: Preparing local townships for the integration of IoT sensors and AI analytics.
The 2026 Smart City Ratings will set a new gold standard for Malaysia. By participating in this Teach-In, iData remains at the forefront of this national transformation. We believe that by empowering local councils with professional-grade data solutions, we can turn the vision of a Smart Malaysia into a daily reality for every citizen. The future of our townships depends on the work being done today, and we are proud to be part of the engine room driving this change.
